i wonder if shaggy knows he got a mention in my old staff bio for hearty, back in 2010...'cause it's still on their website.

i wonder if that's why it was so hard to find freelance work when i was still writing and starving. meh. who needs money or food when your art is anchored to nuggets and shaggy, mon?

ps :
i left to go to jazz school f/t. it was great, and i was the only female there, and i got to attend 3 years of school for free. my first year as a jazz guitar major was the happiest time of my life. i played music all day, every day, and didn't have to work (i got a grant that covered my tuition, and my...life.)

but that was five years ago, and i must say - both hearty and music school were magical, great things for my life - but they were also equally useless when it came time to career up. i spent my second year at jazz school homeless, living out of my locker and sleeping on floors.

and still, i don't make a living off either writing or music, to this day.

i work with drug addicts and mentally ill people for a living - which i love more than i can say. but still...i'm not the artist i thought i'd be by now. it didn't pan out, after a whole lifetime of practicing and playing and pushing.

but i guess it's a life of food/security/rent vs. a life of art. or something.

ah, getting older is such a treat. you end up having to choose between yr dreams or yr boring, farty old reality. and i choose nuggets, mon.

ok i'll shut up about my blessed life of failure and offensive bloodclot jamaican-isms now.
